What is an IP Lookup?
An IP lookup (or IP geolocation) service maps an IP address to a physical location and network information. This includes the country, city, region, ISP (Internet Service Provider), autonomous system number, and whether the IP belongs to a VPN, proxy, or hosting provider.
IP geolocation is used in analytics, fraud prevention, content localization, and network security. Note that geolocation is an approximation — the actual location of the user may differ from the ISP's registered location.
FAQ
How accurate is IP geolocation?
City-level accuracy varies from 50–80%. Country-level is typically 99% accurate. ISP data is very accurate. For precise locations, use GPS or explicit user permission.
